The Los Angeles Times reported this week that California State Controller John Chiang’s office found in an audit released Tuesday, an improper arrangement between the City of Montebello, and its engineering firm AAE. Through the city’s arrangement with AAE, the firm served as Montebello’s city engineer and awarded $2 million in contracts to itself, approved its own invoices and oversaw its own compliance. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-aae-20111102,0,3835276.story.
In August, 2010 former Director of Building and Planning Director David Mango for the City of Maywood was fired just days after he revealed to Maywood’s City Manager Lilian Myers, that he had gone undercover as part of a federal investigation into AAE’s dealings with City of Maywood officials. According to this week’s Los Angeles Times story, “Federal sources confirmed that . . . [Mr. Mango] . . . had worked undercover for the FBI.” David Mango is represented by the law firms of Hadsell Stormer Richardson & Renick, LLP and the Law Offices of Scott R. Ames in his lawsuit against Maywood for his wrongful and retaliatory termination.
